AI for Good Governance: A Conversation About Nigeria’s Public Service
A workshop in Abuja explored how practical AI skills and responsible governance can support better public service.

On 28 October 2026, ElevateOne joined professionals and technology enthusiasts at American Space, Abuja, for an AI for Good Governance workshop exploring how AI tools can strengthen Nigeria’s public service.
With insights from Dipo Ige and Umar Adam Ibrahim, PhD, the workshop explored practical ways to improve workflows, support informed decisions and make public service delivery more effective.
What does responsible adoption look like?
AI can help people work through information and automate routine tasks. In public service, useful technology also needs clear responsibilities, human judgement and ways for people to question decisions.
Before adopting a tool, institutions should ask:
- What problem are we trying to solve, and who benefits?
- What information does the tool use, and how is that information protected?
- Who checks its output and takes responsibility when something goes wrong?
- Can people understand and challenge decisions that affect them?
These questions connect technical choices with the people those choices are meant to serve.
Connecting skills with participation
Digital literacy goes beyond knowing how to use a new application. It includes understanding its limits, checking information and recognising when human review is needed.
For ElevateOne, this connects AI governance with civic participation and government transparency. Communities need opportunities to understand emerging technologies and contribute to decisions about their use.
Conversations such as the AI for Good Governance workshop create room to explore these questions together. The next step is to keep connecting practical skills with responsible choices about technology.
